Greening Jewish Institutions

CJCA is proud to announce the Greening Jewish Institutions (GJI) initiative:

  • This program is designed to help Jewish organizations complete large scale greening projects.

  • Our initial work will focus on Denver institutions with large buildings (over 25,000 square feet).

  • Our ultimate goal is to achieve a net-zero Jewish community.

The Greening Jewish Institutions initiative will provide resources and support to help:

  • Ensure that Denver organizations with large buildings have accurate, site-specific energy benchmarks

  • Set up energy audits

  • Take advantage of city, state, and federal incentives and rebates

  • Implement efficiency upgrades

  • Install rooftop solar

  • Install EV charging stations

Energize Denver

The Energize Denver ordinance requires all buildings over 25,000 sq. ft. to reduce their emissions by 30% by 2030. This is the first step in their larger goal to achieve net zero by 2040. These larger buildings produce 49% of Denver’s greenhouse gas emissions. As these buildings become more energy efficient, Denver will reap the benefits of better air quality and will hopefully inspire other cities to decarbonize.

CJCA is here to help Jewish institutions meet these ambitious, mandatory benchmarks.

Over the past few years, Congress passed the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act. These measures contain significant climate provisions including financial incentives for emissions-reducing infrastructure upgrades.

The Greening Jewish Institutions initiative will help Jewish institutions take full advantage of these incentives. GJI is working to provide a comprehensive list of incentives and rebates that will help us achieve our ultimate goal of net-zero emissions for the Jewish community.
